You Are a Root Beer Jelly Bean

You are truly All American and down to earth. You don't have fancy tastes, and you don't apologize for who you are. You enjoy tradition and proven quality.

A Wonderful Surprise!

Look what my secret pal sent! The coolest most fabulous needle holder! It holds all the needles I have, and I can put them discretely in my closet, away from little hands and paws. Plus, it's lavender! How great is that? This secret pal is awesome. She also included another cute handmade card (which Amelia stole) with a teddy bear having tea.

The same day I received a card in the mail teasing me about the upcoming package. Wow!

I started a pair of socks with Cascade Fixation (cotton/elastic) for my secret pal (she lives in California, so I thought wool socks would be silly). I like working with that yarn alot because it is very soft and looks very neat. This has been a fun swap, and I'm looking forward to doing another one.

Fewer UFOs Flying Out There

I finally finished the Sweet Pea Cardigan and I think it's pretty, if I do say so myself!

I am making some more socks with Koigu PPPM for my friend, Claire W. (I have two friends named Claire) who has the tiny feet, so this may be the first pair of socks that have actually fit her in a long time. Being a chilly 100 degrees out there right now makes me wonder if there will ever be a need for cozy wool socks ever again, but they sure are fun to knit.

Amelia has, in the past two weeks, changed from a cute, sweet and funny toddler to the Linda Blair character from the Exorcist movies (I guess I am dating myself here). She refuses to let me hug and kiss her, wants to leave the house naked in the morning, and the least little thing will set her flying into a mega-tantrum. While the therapist part of me knows this is necessary and temporary-- blah blah blah, the mother part of me is riled up with all sorts of issues. It's hard not to imagine she actually prefers dh since she hugged him and said "I love you, Daddy," for the first time recently with nary a nod to the Mommy Witch over there. I knew parenting would be challenging at times, but I didn't know it would be so sad.

Happy Birthday to Me

Amelia and dh were baking a reduced fat chocolate cake for me last night. Amelia sang, "Happy Birthday to Mommy Cake," which was so cute. Not sure if I am Mommy Cake or if she was singing to the cake itself. She also sang something we couldn't figure out for awhile, it sounded like "Only From the Frame." We wracked our brains, repeating, "Only From the Frame...."? Finally, she got down from her chair for her nearly-brain-dead parents and did the whole song and dance, which emerged as "If I Only Had a Brain," from Wizard of BOZ. So funny!!! She even fell down at the end, like the scarecrow does. She did this many times.

Among my amazing gifts was a tiny silver pin of a little girl that Amelia says is her. (Aww....).

BIL sent me an Amazon gift certificate which is gone now. Lots of sock books coming soon! hehe. I am obsessed with socks. Socks. Want to knit socks for the secret pal, but she lives in CA, so I better make them in cotton. BTW, don't buy Inox circulars. They suck. The join isn't smooth like Addi Turbos. The new Knit Picks circulars, however, are great! And cheap!!! Go Knit Picks!

My Secret Pal sent me the cutest stitch markers! They are all very "Me." See for yourself!

Cat Bordhi, You Rock!!!!

OK, so I cheated and got Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles even before the sock knitting class on July 9. I dove right in and started using the techniques in the book, but instead of using #1, 2 or 3 needles, I used #9s and some heavy worsted weight. Wow! In one evening I had an abbreviated leg, a heel flap, turned the heel, and started the gusset! I was so surprised and excited. Well, of course that meant a trip to the LYS for sock yarn and at least two Addi Turbo Circulars. Over $100 later, I zoomed home to try my first sock!! My favorite yarn is the gorgeous and fun Regia rainbow-colored stuff. Look!

I guess you are wondering, "Is she still gonna take the sock knitting class?" Yeah, I guess so. If nothing else, I'll get better at DPNs, which must be useful for something, but right now I can't imagine what. Maybe mitten thumbs.

I heart you, Cat Bordhi! The feet of America thank you!!!
